The Loop: Homeless

We're sad to announce that we're being forced to move out of our beautiful home on Bay Street. We were given the news on July 2 and have to be out by Aug. 1.

We don't really know how to express how we feel about it. Sad, furious, betrayed and "let down" is a good start.

Our disappointment really comes from that another local business is telling us to TAKE A HIKE from our home. Thunder Bay's entrepreneurial spirit has enough problems, it doesn't need local businesses attacking other local businesses. That sort of thing isn't good for anyone.

Since our fantastic neighbours at Villedge Art moved around the corner to Algoma St. we've been actively encouraging business owners to think about moving to Bay Street. This neighbourhood is our home and we have loved seeing it grow as much as it has over the last 4 years.

So the burning question now is, "Where are you moving?"
The answer is: "We have no idea."

We've started looking, but finding the perfect location isn't easy.

We want to be clear about this: The Loop IS NOT closing. We're too passionate about promoting Canadian designers, supporting local musicians and making people feel comfortable in their own skin with the clothes they wear - to stop now.

To our customers & friends:
Whether you're a regular customer, or just coming in for a visit to brighten our day - Thank you! We know a lot of people that hate their jobs, but that's not us. Even with all of this BS, you still make it fun to come to work every day.

We wouldn't have been able to make it this far without everyone's support and positive word-of-month. So please keep talking :)

Anniversary Sale:
We're still having our Midnight Madness Anniversary Sale Thurs. July 8th from 10pm to 2am. This will be our last one at this location, please come out and make it memorable.

Website:
We have no plans to close our e-commerce site. We'll keep taking orders and shipping them out within 12 hours of ordering. We'll be launching a brand new look to the site in the upcoming weeks.

Stay in the Loop:
We'll keep our Facebook Fan Page, Twitter and email list updated with details about what's happening. Pick your (social media) poison and follow us along for the ride.

while i was mia jimmy choo did a collection for H&M which my friends waited all night in the cold for while i slept in my bed.

and then they all got beautiful leather purses and shoes and cuffs and dresses and i was the loser in the end.

SO. here are the ads that are floating around toronto

and NOW sonia rykiel is doing a line of underwear for H&M, which i had the pleasure of seeing in store today when i bought a big stripey sweater,

they say “pour” h&m, and for some reason when i saw this while walking to school it made me shiver. she’s just so french and wonderful!

McQueen goes fetish

Shoes.

They’ve been called the most eye-catching part of Alexander McQueen’s entire S2010 show, and everyone seems on the fence about whether they are extraordinarily brilliant, or just plain ugly.

I think they’re perfect, especially the terrifying chrome pair that looks sort of like a dragon. The height, ranging up to about 10 inches, echoes that of the fetish heels that have been sold in sex stores forever, proving McQueen is keeping on the cutting edge with the recent transition into more fetish/bondage inspired clothing on the runway.

Each pair is drastically different from the next. I see traces of inspiration ranging from the completely mechanical to all natural.

They’re wonderful.

style.com has compiled a “spring 2010 top ten collections” list.

it features balmain, which I blogged about previously, and other notable collections.

it also features, at #7, one of the worst collections I have ever seen.

dear Marc Jacobs,

why?

what a mess.

oh, i just read the style.com summary of the collection

“Marc Jacobs is tired of seeing young girls wearing black and studs.”

that would probably explain why I hate it.

or maybe it’s just because it’s really gaudy and cheap looking.

but wait. a light at the end of the worst collection ever.
quite possibly the prettiest dress ever created:

it’s stunning. it looks like a watercolour painting.
i understand the collection was inspired by theater and ballet and the opera,

but why couldn’t more of it look like this gem?

end rant.

Balmain Spring 2010 RTW

I think this is one of the most beautiful spring 2010 collections I have seen. Christophe Decarnin is a genius, and I am dying to own every single one of those military style jackets (unfortunately each one costs about $9,000).

The theme of this collection is apparently something along the lines of “disco cavewoman goes to the front”.

amazing.

“on the 1st april 1960, the dr. martens 1.4.60 was born.”

“now, more than forty years on, a continuous succession of skinheads, mods, punks and various other cultural renegades have adopted the 1460 as a symbol of their independence and individuality whilst giving a nod to the boot’s working class roots.”

“in the spirit of originality inherent to dr. martens and in celebration of its past and future, dr. martens has asked designers from britain and around the world to customize its most classic boot.”
